Section 900. Definitions

20 AAC 16.900. Definitions

(a) Unless otherwise provided or the context requires otherwise, the definitions in 20 AAC 15.990 apply to the terms of this chapter.

(b) In this chapter, unless the context requires otherwise,

(1) "academic year" means the period of time described in 34 C.F.R. 668.3;

(2) "dependent student" means a student who is expected to have access to parental support in paying for higher education, as defined in 34 C.F.R. 668.2(b);

(3) "expected family contribution" means the amount a student or the student's family is expected to pay towards the student's cost of attendance, as set out in a financial need computation methodology allowable under 34 C.F.R. 692;

(4) "independent student" means a student who is not expected to have access to parental support in paying for higher education, as defined in 34 C.F.R. 668.2(b);

(5) "ISIR" means the Institutional Student Information Record, which is the data generated by the United States Department of Education's processing of the FAFSA, as defined in 34 C.F.R. 668.2(b);

(6) "school year" has the same meaning as "academic year" in this subsection;

(7) "workforce shortage area" means a professional or occupational area as described in AS 14.43.415 (b).
