20 AAC 16.030. Application procedure

(a) A student requesting an AlaskAdvantage education grant must submit a completed FAFSA to the United States Department of Education on or before April 15 of each year for which grant money will be requested, and in the manner set out in the FAFSA.

(b) A FAFSA submitted to the United States Department of Education after April 15 and a FAFSA that does not result in the generation of a valid ISIR will not be considered.

(c) An eligible applicant may be required to submit supplemental information for the purpose of determining the applicant's eligibility for an increased grant award as described in 20 AAC 16.034.

(d) In addition to certification of an applicant's eligibility under 20 AAC 16.010, school staff shall certify award eligibility requirements, including that the student

(1) is admitted and intends to enroll in an undergraduate degree or vocational certificate program on at least a half-time basis;

(2) has a high school diploma or general educational development (GED) diploma;

(3) has unmet financial need;

(4) has a final determination of dependent or independent status; and

(5) meets requirements set out in 20 AAC 16.034(b) for an increased grant award.

(e) The commission staff shall process certified grant applications and notify each institution of the names of students certified by that institution who are eligible to receive an AlaskAdvantage education grant as determined under this section.

(f) The commission will publish an annual grant processing calendar.
