Rule 19.1. Qualifications of Magistrates Who Seek Appointment as District Judges Under AS 22.15.160(a)(2).
A magistrate is qualified for appointment to the office of district judge under AS 22.15.160(a)(2) if he or she is a citizen of the United States and of the state, is at least 21 years of age, has been a resident of the state for at least five years immediately preceding the appointment, has served for at least seven years in the state as a magistrate in the exempt service of the Alaska Court System, and is a graduate of a law school accredited or approved by the Council of Legal Education of the American Bar Association or the Association of American Law Schools.
