18 AAC 30.805. Buildings

A facility operator shall ensure that

(1) floors, walls, and ceilings have smooth, easily cleanable surfaces, except that rough-textured and acoustical-tile ceilings are permitted in bedrooms and living rooms;

(2) no paint containing lead is used;

(3) during insect season, openings to the outside of the building have screens, unless other means are provided to prevent the entry of flying insects; however, screens on windows may not permanently obstruct egress from the building;

(4) stairways and steps have handrails and nonslip treads or covering;

(5) if infants or toddlers are present, safety gates are used to prevent access to stairs;

(6) residual insecticides are not used;

(7) hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, white mice, domestic rabbits, non-psittacine birds such as canaries, and harmless fish are kept in cages or aquariums, and heavy-duty plastic or other water-impervious material is placed under and around animal cages to confine food, droppings, and urine;

(8) monkeys, bats, squirrels, skunks, poisonous snakes, water turtles, parakeets, parrots, pigeons, and predatory animals or birds are not kept in facilities; and

(9) waste material from animal areas is collected daily and placed in plastic bags which are sealed before disposal.
