Title 17 . Transportation and Public Facilities
Chapter 70 . Miscellaneous Provisions
Section 120. Animals

17 AAC 70.120. Animals

As required by AS 03.53.010 (ch. 48, SLA 1974), no animals may be transported into the state aboard a ferry operated by the division of marine highways of the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities unless the animal's owner, custodian or attendant possesses a valid health certificate for the animal. Animals permitted to travel under 17 AAC 70.110 will be transported entirely at owner's risk and the ferry system will assume no liability or responsibility for the handling or transporting of same. Dogs or other household pets may be transported when in vehicles or adequate containers. Such containers must be placed in areas on the vehicle deck designated by vessel personnel. The owner is responsible for care and safety of animals on the vehicle deck and regular periods for such care will be arranged by vessel personnel. Large animals, such as horses, may be transported in adequate vehicles when prior arrangement is made with ferry system representatives. Such prior arrangement includes, but is not limited to, signed "Release of Liability" and guarantee that the transporting vehicle is leakproof, and that bedding material is of an authorized substance. The attendant must have in his possession a health certificate for each animal, and any or all documents required by Canadian authority when the voyage terminates in a Canadian port. A guarantee of adequate food and water for each animal must be provided by the attendant.
