Section 430. Equipment and supplies

7 AAC 12.430. Equipment and supplies

(a) Sufficient supplies and equipment must be maintained in a convenient area for immediate availability for the care of maternal clients and newborns. Equipment must include

(1) a bed suitable for labor, birth, and recovery;

(2) oxygen with flow meters and masks or the equivalent;

(3) mechanical suction and bulb suction;

(4) resuscitation bags, oral airways, laryngoscopes, and endotracheal tubes appropriate for the newborn;

(5) firm surfaces suitable for resuscitation;

(6) emergency medications and intravenous fluids, with supplies and equipment for their administration;

(7) fetal monitoring equipment, including a fetoscope;

(8) equipment for monitoring and maintaining the optimum body temperature of the newborn, including a radiant heat source appropriate for use in warming newborns;

(9) an appropriate newborn incubator;

(10) a clock with a sweep second hand;

(11) sterile suturing equipment and supplies;

(12) adjustable examination lights;

(13) closed or covered containers for soiled linen and waste materials; and

(14) a telephone, or equivalent communication device.

(b) Equipment and its environment must be maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition.
