5 AAC 85.015. Hunting seasons and bag limits for black bear

(a) In this section, the phrase "General hunt only" means that there is a general hunt for residents, but no subsistence hunt, during the relevant open season. For those units or portions of units within non-subsistence areas established by the Joint Boards of Fisheries and Game (5 AAC 99.015) , there is a general hunt only. Hunting seasons and bag limits for black bear are as follows:

    

    

Resident Open Season (Subsistence and Nonresident Units and Bag Limits General Hunts) Open Season (1) Units 1(A), 1(B), 1(D), 2, 3 (except Kuiu Island), and 5 RESIDENT HUNTERS: 2 bears, not more than 1 of Sept. 1 - June 30 which may be a blue or glacier (General hunt only) bear NONRESIDENT HUNTERS: 1 bear Sept. 1 - June 30 Unit 1(C) RESIDENT HUNTERS: 2 bears, not more than 1 of which may be a blue or glacier bear; however, a white-colored bear may not be taken Sept. 1 - June 30 NONRESIDENT HUNTERS: 1 bear; however, a white-colored bear may not be taken Sept. 1 - June 30 Unit 3, Kuiu Island RESIDENT HUNTERS: 2 bears, not more than Sept. 1 - June 30 1 of which may be a blue or glacier bear NONRESIDENT HUNTERS: Sept. 1 - June 30 1 bear, the season will be closed by emergency order when the harvest guideline has been reached (2) Units 6(A) and 6(B) Aug. 20 - June 30 Aug. 20 - June 30 1 bear Unit 6(C) Sept. 1 - June 30 Sept. 1 - June 30 1 bear Unit 6(D) Sept. 1 - June 10 Sept. 1 - June 10 1 bear (3) Units 7 and 15 No closed season.
